Make Money On The Internet With HubPages

As one of my first make money on the internet experiments, I decided to see if there was any money to be made by using HubPages.  I opted to try to finish 100 Hubs in 30 Days as part of a Hub Challenge.  I decided that if I pushed myself to work as hard as I could, that I could finish doing 100 Hubs in just 10 Days.  I did end up finishing 100 Hubs of keyword-targeted topics and was very glad that I was able to finish the experiment.

This money making experiment really pushed me out of my productivity comfort zone and was able to push me to work at a new level.  Below, I will recap what I did and tell you how to make money on the internet using HubPages.

For each HubPage article, I followed a basic set of rules in order to maximize Adsense Earnings:

1) Research Uncompetitive Keywords

The most important part of creating HubPages is to do keyword research and find niche-topics with relatively low competition.  You want to find keywords that a lot of people search for each month, but that there isn’t a lot of competition for in the search engines.  It’s pretty easy to do this with Google’s keyword tool external.  It took me awhile to do good research and find uncompetitive keywords, but I have a good feeling that it will definitely pay off.

2) Find High CPC (Cost-Per-Click) Keywords

Not only should you make sure that your keywords are uncompetitive, but you should be looking for keywords with a high-payout.  If you are serious about making any money with HubPages, you must be willing to find keywords that are both non-competitive and that have a high CPC.  You can look at both the search volume and the Cost-Per-Click with Google’s keyword tool, so check that out before you start.

3) Write articles that are at least 500 – 1000 words in length

Most of the articles that I wrote range anywhere from 600 to 1000 words in length.  If you are aiming to have your articles indexed by HubPages for the long-term, I suggest that you try to get closer to the 1000 words.  Most of my articles are around 800 words, but I will be going back and adding content to make sure that they are going to have longevity.  If you are going to make some Hubs, don’t think that writing just 2 paragraphs is going to cut it.  You need to give people a reason to actually read your article.  Besides, having a low amount of content is going to get you in trouble with the HubPages system; your articles will probably get deleted if they are shorter than 400 words.

4) Link to every Hub from at least 3-5 other Hubs – vary your link’s anchor text

If you are going to do 100 Hubs, you should always try to find keywords that are related.  For this I mean that if you are writing one Hub about “making money online,” you should try to write a few similar Hubs (e.g. “How To Make Money On The Internet” / “Earning Money Online” / etc.).  You should not be linking your Hubs about “making money” to your Hubs about “attic fans.”  Always be sure to vary your links’ anchor texts.

5) Promote HubPages with EZine Articles, Infobarrels, GoArticles, and Blogs

For each of my HubPages, I promoted them by writing additional articles to submit to EzineArticles, GoArticles, and other blogs.  Each of my HubPages got one Ezine article link, one Infobarrel link, one GoArticles link, and an additional three links from related-blogs.  This will help you to boost the traffic to your HubPages as well as help them rank better in Google.  For each incoming promotional link pointing at your HubPage, your Hub will move up in the search engine rankings for your designated keywords.

6) Promote Your HubPages Some More

There are many more ways that you can promote your HubPages once they are on the internet.  You can link to them from some of your existing blogs, you can find other bloggers and Hubbers to exchange links with, and you can link to them from more article-directory websites like EZine Articles.  The promotion is the most important part of your HubPages experiment.  You shouldn’t expect to make much money at all if you don’t at least follow steps 4 and 5.

How much money did I make with HubPages?

It is almost too early to tell, but I figure that by the end of the month I will be making around $25 dollars per day from my Hubs.  I think that it is definitely awesome that I was able to push myself to work really hard for 10 days and was able to generate $25 dollars per day on autopilot for awhile.  Who knows how long this income will last.  I can only assume that it will keep growing due to the fact that:

A) HubPages is still growing as a website

B) The older the HubPage, the better they will rank

C) Promotional Links can be added at any time

There are a few more things that you should know about if you decide to make some HubPages.  First off, if you are only going to do a small number of Hubs (like 10 Hubs), you shouldn’t expect to make any money at all.  Doing just a small number like 10 means that you probably won’t get lucky and you will not pull in nearly the amount of traffic that 100 well-researched Hubs will.

Secondly, I recommend that you target very long-tail keywords instead of shorter ones.  It would be better to write about the “Blueair 501 Air Purifier” than it would be to write about just “Air Purifiers.”  The more specific and long you can get, the better you will rank for those terms.  Just make sure that they have a good CPC (cost per click) because you won’t want to waste your time writing about any keyword (no matter how uncompetitive) if you are only getting one cent per click.

Finally, I don’t recommend that you constantly check your Adsense earnings until you are completely finished with Steps 1 through 5.  You do not want to see zero earnings and get discouraged to continue with your experiment.  The only way that you will make a solid amount of money from your Hubs is if you take the time to promote them.  After you have completed Steps 1 through 5, I think you will be pretty happy with your earnings if you have done what I recommended properly.

If you are going to use HubPages to make money on the internet, I wish you luck.  Realize though, that most people who try to do 100 Hubpages have a lot of difficulty with completing them in 1 month.  I personally liked the thought of spending 10 days (averaging 2 articles at approximately 800 words) per hour and working as hard as possible.  For people who are working full time, I’d aim for about 3 or 4 Hubs per day for 30 days straight.  If I was not working at all and wanted to make some money online with some good ole hard work, then I’d definitely aim to complete at least 8 per day.  Doing 10 Hubs per day at 800 words was manageable, but it sure left me with a major headache.

Once you are finished with writing your 100 Hubs, you will definitely feel like throwing a huge party… Until you think about doing the promotion for each article.  Keep yourself cruising along with the promotion all throughout the next 30 days and watch your AdSense earnings continue to climb.  I am currently aiming to average $1000 dollars per month by using my existing articles on HubPages and I know that is definitely possible with the right amount of promotion.  If you are willing to put in the effort, you will make money with HubPages.

Wow, I came upon this site doing keyword research for a new domain name. This is a good article, I think. Because I was considering doing some hubpages, but now that I know that 5-10 hubs won’t do me any good, I will put my efforts in another direction, until later on when I am making money and can outsource it, of course.:-)

Yeah, good article – how are your passive earnings holding up? I couldn’t write that much though.

Hey, I really enjoyed the article. I also read the infobarrel one. I like that you include specific details in your post, instead of a bunch of wishy-washy generalities. I really admire your hard work ethic. Could you please do a followup? Did the experiment meet your goals of keeping it at $25 a day?
