Most people that have been able to make money on the internet made tons of mistakes before they saw their first dollar (I know I did). Although you may be struggling to achieve success online, I have some tips that you may find helpful. The coolest part about making money on the net is that you are in complete control of your own business one hundred percent of the time. You call the shots, you make your own hours, and you decide what you would like to work on. Many times when people first start their journey to make money, they think that they need to pick a topic that they hate writing about in order to earn. Doing work that you clearly do not like (whether it be writing articles, freelancing, etc.) is usually not going to inspire you to make more money.
If you hope to be successful as a web entrepreneur or internet marketer, you should have a genuine passion for what you are doing. I have found that when I try to force myself to write too many articles on topics that I don’t like, I am far less productive than normal. In order to reach a state of maximum productivity and motivation, I first force myself to meet a few criteria that I’ve set for myself. Below are some personal steps that I now go through before setting up a website with the intention of making money online.
Best Tips To Make Money On The Internet
Step #1: Make a large list of things that I enjoy
Step #2: Use the Google Adwords Keyword Tool to find the CPC / traffic ratio
Step #3: Take a look at CPC, traffic, as well as my level of interest
Step #4: Choose a topic that is motivating and that pays well
Step #5: Set up a website with a keyword rich domain name
Step #6: Write articles, market them, and watch the money roll in
Before devising this improved strategy for myself, I used to only choose topics that had high CPC’s. Folks, this is clearly a major mistake. Although you may be initially motivated by starting with a very high CPC, it is probably not such a good idea if you have zero or minimal interest in whatever you’re writing about. I have found that the websites that I have a lot of interest in usually perform the best (as far as traffic goes) as well as in earnings. It is very easy for me to come up with the motivation to work on them throughout the day.
Work On Your Interests
Do you really want to have making money online seem like hard work? If you are going to be the one writing articles, you will probably done a heck of a lot better on websites that you have a natural interest in. Maybe you really enjoy tennis – why not start a site on tennis racquets? As long as it’s a profitable niche, you should do just fine with earnings. If you are writing about construction tools, but have a passion for gardening, it will be much harder to get motivated. At least do yourself the favor of researching some topics related to gardening before writing another article for your construction site.
It is also important to understand your personal set of ethical guidelines. Are you a person that could care less about others and is trying to make as much money as possible? Or do you genuinely attempt to write solid information that helps people? The internet is flooded with spam these days, so writing a bunch of “garbage information” is usually not the answer. Usually the individuals that write quality articles will have them linked to by other webmasters because the articles will actually be useful. Being able to get backlinks to your site from readers is much easier than marketing the content yourself.
Help People Find What They Need
Most people feel a lot better about themselves as an internet marketer when they are writing high quality content that helps people. If you are helping people (in any way), you’ll probably feel a heck of a lot better than you would if your focus was on scamming people. People that are only online to make cash are going to feel much less fulfilled at the end of the day than the individuals that had a positive impact on someone else.
Reflect on your successful projects. Do you have a website (or several) that are very successful? If you do, it can be very helpful to analyze what you did that made them successful. Sometimes people get stuck in a rut and cannot think of what should be done in order to get more traffic or earn more money. Always take a look at the strategies that you used on sites that are already successful – it will likely be obvious as to what needs to be done on your new websites in order to get the same results.
Avoid Distractions
My final tip to make money on the internet is to only partake in activities that will help you achieve your goals (i.e. avoid distractions). If you spend a lot of time surfing the internet, reading the news, checking your email every 5 minutes, checking your Google Adsense earnings, checking your website traffic, reading other blogs, etc., you are not only going to waste a lot of time, but you are going to minimize your productivity.
I realize that it can be tough to manage distractions, but it is something that I consider an absolute “must” to earn money online. In order to cope with this, I typically disconnect my computer from the internet and write articles while I’m not even online. I also make sure that my speakers are unplugged from my computer so that I don’t get distracted by turning on my iTunes, or listening to new music. In my early days, distractions made it impossible for me to write a solid article of 500 words in less than 30 minutes. These days I can knock out an article fairly quick as long as I don’t get distracted.
There are many other good tips that you can implement to make some extra cash on the net as well. In order to be successful online, it is important to implement the advice that resonates with you as an individual and stick with it. Hopefully some of the stuff in this article is able to improve your money making ability.
There are so many ways to make money online, that I decided to write a follow up article to “10 Ways To Make Money On The Internet” (which you should definitely check out if you haven’t). It is important to realize that there are many techniques that can be used to earn cash, but many of them may not be what you want to do. Everyone has their own specialty – you may be great at writing articles, while someone else may be great at designing website templates. Some people are able to do freelance work, start their own blog, and sell SEO services. If you have never tried any money making techniques, you can start experimenting whenever you want. The sooner that you start, the greater the potential you will have to earn.
11. Google Adsense
One of the easiest ways to make money is by signing up for a Google Adsense account and putting advertisements on some of your websites. You basically can earn money every time that someone clicks on the advertisement. Joining this publishing network is really a win-win situation for both you and Google. The nice thing about earning with Adsense is that you are not limited to visitors coming from just one country.
You can get traffic from all over the world at any time and any of those people can click on an offer. Implementing the code into your website is very easy to do. Having just 50 keyword targeted visitors per day can earn you some cash. If you combine this method with a bit of keyword research, you should have some success.
12. Build a Store
A lot of people make a healthy income by creating one or several online stores. The whole key here is finding a product that people are searching for. It is always smart to do some research prior to deciding what you want to sell. You will want to find a market that is not already over-saturated and that sells something that people genuinely want to buy.
It can be very difficult to compete in certain niches, which is why you will want to make sure that you have a good chance to succeed. After you have built a store, do some marketing, tell people about it, and post flyers around your community. It will take awhile to start getting some traffic, but you can make plenty of cash if you choose a good niche and market it properly.
13. Provide Coaching Services
Are you a person that has a lot of knowledge in a certain area of life? If so, you could be sharing the information on the internet to help (potentially) millions of people. By offering great advice and information, you could earn a living. I know many businesses that earn a healthy living by providing their members with free coaching tips.
The coaching can be about whatever you specialize in. Maybe you are very knowledgeable about helping people with stress, maybe you are an expert affiliate marketer, maybe you are great at making cash on the internet. If you provide people with valuable advice and do a good job, you can do the math. Getting 1000 people to sign up for your video series at $30 per month will make you roughly $30000. It’s not really hard to achieve this if you already have a large following at your blog or website.
14. Put Pictures Up For Sale
There are a lot of different stock photo websites that will give people money for their photographs. If you are a great photographer, you could even decide to sell others the rights to your pictures. Taking a lot of high-quality pictures means that you will have a very good shot at selling.
Although you may be somewhat uncomfortable with selling your pictures to make a profit on the internet, it is at least something to consider. If you sell one picture 1000 times for $3 each, that’s $3000 in fairly easy earnings. The possibilities are endless for great photographers.
15. Become an Affiliate Marketer
There are many marketers that specialize in selling products that are manufactured by other companies. If you work hard at this profession and learn the tricks of the trade, you can make a healthy amount of cash by just referring people to buy a useful product. Although most people think this is easy to do, it actually takes a lot of hard work.
You need to take time to choose what product you want to sell and make sure that you will earn enough to compensate your marketing efforts. If you happen to already own a website, you can promote products related to what you are talking about. For example, if you have a site about yoga, you can display affiliate offers for things like yoga mats, candles, books, etc. Whenever someone purchases something, you earn a percentage of the commission.
16. Join A Pay-To-Do Website
If you are really struggling to find work, there are websites that will pay you to post articles, complete surveys, sign up for free trials, and display your search data. There are even places that will pay you for scanning your grocery receipts (so that they can collect anonymous spending information). You should make sure that you are finding a legitimate site and not falling for any scam.
Do your own research and make sure that the website is trustworthy and reliable before you do any work or complete any trial offers. Beware of all the spam sites that are floating around with these types of offers. The nicest thing about these types of sites is that you do not need to run your own website and there are zero start-up costs.
17. Post Videos on Profit Sharing Sites like Revver
If you want to make money on the internet fast, you can make a viral video and upload it to sites like Revver. They will pay you 40% of the total earnings that your video produces. If you are creative and can provide some videos that other people will enjoy, then you are going to have money making success.
The nice thing is that it is free to become a member on these types of sites. There are various requirements that you must comply with in order to get paid, but they are relatively self-explanatory. There are other sites like MetaCafe that pay their users $5 per 1000 views after the initial 20000 – which is obviously harder to earn with than Revver. You should take the time to figure out which site works best for you before uploading a video with the goal of earning.
18. Create an iPhone Application
If you are an experienced developer, you can write iPhone applications and sell them through the iTunes interface. If you are able to create an application that people find valuable, they will recommend it to others and your sales will increase. You can stand to make a lot of money in a very short period of time if you come up with something innovative or that has a lot of social value.
The number one application for awhile was iFart, which basically just had a lot of social value. Play off of your strengths and try to keep your target audience in mind when developing an application. Selling your application for $9.99 to 1000 people will not be very difficult if you create a moderately useful app. Remember, the more apps that you upload, the greater chance you will have to strike it rich.
19. Sell Advertising Space
Owning any web property makes it very easy to sell advertising space. You can request whatever amount that you feel is appropriate. You can sell 125 x 125 advertisements very easily with a plugin like OIO Publisher. Sometimes advertisement networks may want to buy advertising space for a certain period of time (e.g. a month to test out how well your website converts for them).
If you work on a website for a moderately long period of time (e.g. 3 to 5 years), you will likely get plenty of offers to buy advertising space. It is up to you to decide how much you should charge. Obviously if you are getting too many requests, you should probably think about raising your rate. If you aren’t getting enough requests, you may want to lower your asking price. It’s all a matter of experimentation.
20. Write Website Reviews
If you run a fairly popular blog or website, you probably are getting offers all the time to write a review of a certain product or service. The company will pay you a fairly substantial amount of money if you run a site that has a lot of visitors. If you are able to demand $50 per review and write 4 reviews a week, that’s $400 in earnings just from reviewing products or services.
In most cases with reviews, you can make even more money by including an affiliate link if you like the service. Even if you are not getting emails to write reviews about products, you can always write about your experiences with a certain product or service. If you can genuinely recommend the product, you can make money on the internet each time someone signs up through your affiliate link.
